Known fondly as Eddye, a beacon of love and warmth who touched the lives of all who knew her. Edwina's journey began on December 19, 1919, in DeCoto, California, now Union City, as the beloved daughter of Jose and Frances Agua.

Edwina is preceded in death by her husband Fred Escalona, sisters Mary Garcia, Dora Linares, Frances Waters and brothers Joseph Waters, and Michael Agua

Throughout her 104 years of life, which is 38,072 days, Edwina embodied the true essence of family, friendship, and community. She was a devoted wife to her beloved Fred Escalona, sharing 65 years of love, laughter, and cherished memories. Their home was not only a sanctuary for their family but a welcoming haven for friends and loved ones.

Edwina's heart overflowed with love for her children, son Ron Escalona and Robert (who passed away at 2 days old) , daughter Dana (Escalona) Couture and son in law Bruce Couture, and her grandchildren, Taj (McCoy) and Danny Gutridge, Teneil (McCoy) Pagnini, Treasure (McCoy) and Lance Miller, Ignacio Escalona, Valarie (Couture) and Luis Agurto, and Nicole (Couture) and Louis Arroyos, as well as her great-grandchildren, Antonio and Nickolas Gutridge, Haley and Presley Miller, Rocco Pagnini, Louis, Jacob, and Julianna Agurto, Kaylynn Bittle, and Ari Arroyos. She found immense joy in spending time with each one, nurturing bonds that would last a lifetime. Her legacy of love will continue to live on through us.

Edwina's life was one of dedication and service to her community. As a member of The Most Holy Rosary Church for over 75 years, she exemplified unwavering faith and commitment. Her involvement in organizations like The Young Ladies Institute and the Native Daughters showcased her passion for giving back.

Beyond her community involvement, Edwina was a woman of many talents and interests. She was an avid golfer, a member of both the Nine- and Eighteen-hole ladies' golf clubs at Lone Tree Golf course. She was also a member of the Antioch historical society and a part of the Sports hall of fame of Antioch. Her culinary skills were legendary, particularly her traditional Spanish rice, Italian meatballs and Pumpkin Bread, which brought joy to countless gatherings.

Edwina's zest for life extended beyond her hobbies. She enjoyed bowling, bingo, and trips to Reno for Keno, always embracing each moment with a contagious enthusiasm. Her vibrant spirit was evident in everything she did, from dancing as the Miss Jitterbug Queen of 1939 to entertaining audiences as part of the "Flappers" tap dance group.

But perhaps Edwina's greatest legacy lies in the hearts of those she touched with her kindness and grace. Her warm smile and compassionate nature made everyone feel welcome, leaving an indelible mark on all who had the privilege of knowing her.

May her memory be a blessing, and may her spirit continue to shine brightly in the hearts of all who loved her.

A small celebration of life was enjoyed with family and friends on April 13, 2024.
