Obituary of Alexander Robert Potter

Alexander Robert Potter, age 93, passed away peacefully on January 9, 2023 in Grapevine, TX.  Alex was born August 15, 1929 in Franklin, Kansas to Alexander and Simone Potter.  At the age of 5, he moved to Chicago, IL with his family where he was raised and educated.  Upon graduating from high school he served in the US Marine Corps and was honorably discharged in July, 1948.  He attended Wright Junior College where he met his future wife, Margherita Orga.  His formal education concluded with a BS in Chemical Engineering from Illinois Institute of Technology.

Alex spent his entire career in the Industrial Gas industry, working for National Cylinder Gas, Chemetron and Liquid Air Corporation.  He was an active member of the Compressed Gas Association.

Alex was a devout Lutheran, always active in church leadership and service.  He enjoyed many outdoor activities including fishing, hunting, and camping.  Many summer vacations were spent sharing these passions with his children.  Gardening and woodworking were other favorite pastimes.  He also enjoyed investing and led an investors club for many years.

Alex and his wife, Rita, were married in 1956 and raised two children, Linda and Robert.  Alex is survived by daughter Linda and her husband David Mudd and their children Andrea, Katie and Alex, and by his son Robert and his wife Jennifer (Hemmet) Potter and their children Phebe, Alex and Beth.

Alex was a loving father and grandfather.  He led a long and healthy life until recently.  For the past 2-1/2 years he battled Alzheimer’s Disease.  We are thankful for his love and care and he will be missed.

Alex’s life will be celebrated as part of a worship service at St. Matthew Lutheran Church in Walnut Creek, CA on Wednesday, January 18, 2023 at 11 am.  In lieu of flowers, please send donations to the Alzheimer’s ministry Songs and Smiles, 129 S. Main Street, Suite 260, Grapevine, TX  76051.
