Annie Yin Chuck was born on November 2, 1932 in Canton, China. When she was 12, she emigrated from China to San Francisco, where she lived with her brother and stepmother throughout her high school years, picking up English while working at her family’s shop.
While in college at San Francisco State University, she met Walter Chin, who would sit right behind her in class. They married on June 26, 1955. Together they had five children—Julia, Lyndia, Isaac, Cynthia, and Sylvia.
Annie and Walter were an integral part of the Seventh-day Adventist Church, making San Francisco Chinese Church their home for over 40 years. Their generosity to the church reflected their commitment to faith and service.
Both Annie and Walter were firm believers in Christian education. Despite quitting college to support her husband’s education and become a full-time mother, Annie went to work as a data processor for the Northern California Conference of Seventh-day Adventists. This enabled their children to receive Adventist education up through grad school. As a working mom, she cooked, cleaned, and cared for their five children and their college-attending cousins from abroad as well.
After Annie and Walter retired, they enjoyed travelling the world, but their favorite destinations were the homes of their children and grandchildren. Walter preceded her in death after 47 years of marriage. She missed him every day.
Annie is survived by the rest of the “Chin Dynasty”: her five children and 11 grandchildren, the most important fixtures in her life. Her legacy as an incredible wife, mother, and grandmother and her strong, unwavering faith lives on in us.
