January 9, 1941 ~ November 20, 2020

Carol Ann Peterson, lifelong and 4th generation Martinez resident, passed away suddenly but peacefully at home on November 20, 2020.  She was 79 and just shy of her 80th birthday.  Carol was preceded in death by her parents, Bob & Bill Shelby, as well as her sister, Bobby Jean Youell.  She is survived by the family she cherished including her loving husband of 61 years, David; her sister Sharon Shelby Hendricks; three children and their spouses: David & Nora Peterson, Darin & Debbie Peterson and Christine & Don Stratmeyer; with her six grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren being her main pride and joy.  Before retiring in 1996, Carol spent 20 years working in cafeterias throughout the Martinez Unified School District, camping with family and friends and dedicating significant time to Scouting.  Later, she enjoyed traveling around the United States and Canada, collecting antiques, spending time at the family cabin in Graeagle, crocheting, quilting, playing games with her Ladies, creating scads of COVID masks for others, and her Cavalier King Charles Spaniel, Sophie.  She took particular joy in the recent election outcome.  Carol always loved conversation over coffee, a good laugh and the opportunity to help others.  She will be truly missed by everyone who knew and loved her.  Services have been delayed due to COVID but memorial contributions to the charity of your choice would be greatly appreciated.
