God called Consuelo "Connie" Calar Tan -- mother, sister, aunt, best friend, and wife to join Him in heaven on November 16, 2021, at the age of 70 years young. Connie passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her family. She is survived by her husband of 41 years, Ruben, and her children Abe, Anna, Ben, and Roy. She will be missed by her siblings C. Rodrigo Calar, Carolina Garcia, and Carmencita Shinn. She is preceded in death by her beloved daughter Ria Mae Tan, and parents Rodrigo and Trinidad Calar.
Connie was born in Manila, Philippines, and was one of the four children. She graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Medical Technology at Centro Escolar University in Manila, Philippines. Connie worked for Squibb Laboratories and the Philippine Bureau of Internal Revenue. She met her husband Ruben and got married on March 8, 1980. Connie worked for a brief period after marriage but decided to focus on being a homemaker and a mother to her growing family.
When her family migrated to the U.S. in March 2005 and after all her children were grown, she then decided to go back and rejoined the workforce as a nursing assistant. A naturally caring and nurturing person, she took care of the elderly residents as if they were her own family. She worked for 12 years before retiring for good in 2017.
Religion was a major part of Connie's life. She was a devout Catholic and spent most of her free time praying, studying the Bible, and participating in parish activities. Connie also enjoyed reminiscing with her family while listening to her favorite band, The Beatles
