Cdr. Donald A. Burriston, USN (Ret.) April 13, 1930 - October 18,2023 Martinez Don Burriston passed away October 18, 2023, after a brief illness at John Muir Hospital in Walnut Creek. He was 93. Don was born in Oakland, CA on April 13, 1930, to Claude and Alice Burriston and graduated from Fremont High School. He attended San Francisco City College and then enlisted in the United States Navy. He became a naval aviator and flew anti-submarine warfare missions during the Korean War. After 4 years of active duty, he returned to college and earned a bachelor's degree from UC Berkeley, while remaining in the Navy Reserves tor 17 years. After college, he began his career in the Contra Costa County Assessor's Office and retired as Assistant County Assessor after 36 years of service. He is survived by his beloved wife of 29 years, Janet Walton, his daughter Donna Price (Jeff), son Brian (Mojdeh), their mother Shirlie, four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister Carol. He enjoyed woodworking, photography and traveling with Janet to Hawaii every year. He also enjoyed fishing and was a member of the Martinez Sportsmen's Club for many years. His kindness, generosity and sense of humor will be greatly missed by all who knew him. Services and burial will be on November 2,2023, at Oakmont Memorial Park and Mortuary. Visitation will be at 10:00 am, followed by a service at 11:00 am. A graveside service with military honors will be at 12:00 noon.
