Tribute

Eldon Harwood passed away on Wednesday, February 19, 2020 after a valiant fight with cancer. He was under the care of Hospice of The East Bay at the time. His family would like to thank the caring nurses and staff at John Muir Home Health group as well as the loving people at Bruns House who helped care for him.  He will be laid to rest at Oakmont Cemetery in Lafayette, CA.

Eldon was born in Grace ID on April 17,1939, the third of six children, of Clara and John Harwood. He held a Masters Degree in Chemical Engineering from the University of Idaho. He worked for DuPont, Gulf Oil and spent much of his career as an Oil Trader for Chevron Corporation in San Francisco. His work took him from Wilmington, DE, Nashville TN, Pittsburgh PA, Houston TX and finally to Clayton CA. He enjoyed his retirement years traveling internationally, playing golf, Jeeping in Colorado and Geocaching with Rosemary. He was an avid Pittsburgh Steelers fan.

Eldon is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Rosemary, as well as his children Gretchen (Don), Jennifer (Serra) and David (Kris). He was blessed with 2 grandsons, Sean and Simon. He was predeceased in death by his eldest son, Steven. He is also survived by his siblings Neal (Olive), Karen and Dennis as well as many nieces and nephews. Eldon is also survived by his comfort dog, Clayton. Clayton was rescued from ArfLife (Tony La Russa’s Animal Rescue Foundation) in Walnut Creek, CA in August of 2019.

An informal gathering will take place later this year.
