George Shin-Shen Wu
吳 鑫 森
March 23, 1929 – March 22, 2022
George Wu passed away peacefully at his home in Walnut Creek on Tuesday, March 22, 2022.
Born in 1929, George lived his formative years in Shanghai, China before leaving to attend National Taiwan University (Tai Da) in 1948. Six years later, George came to the U.S. as a graduate student at Oklahoma A&M University.
While working as an electrical engineer for Bechtel in New York City, George met and married Diana Ting Liu Wu. The couple were introduced by a mutual acquaintance but George liked to tease Diana by telling their friends that he answered a ‘Husband Wanted’ ad in the paper. In 1960, the newlyweds moved to the Bay Area, where George worked until his retirement at Bechtel’s San Francisco office.
With an interest in a wide variety of activities, George enjoyed performing Chinese opera, raising pigeons, practicing qigong, traveling, following global politics, playing practical jokes, dining with friends, and spending time with his five grandchildren.
George joins his wife Diana and his son Douglas, who preceded him in death in 2014 and in 1972, respectively. He is survived by his children Gloria, Greta and Daniel, son-in-law Andrew, daughter-in-law Lisa, and grandchildren Sean, Quinn, Kira, Cedar and Raven.
It was George’s wish not to have a funeral or memorial service. Instead, he asks all his friends and loved ones to remember him by enjoying a good meal together and having fun.
You will never be forgotten, Dad. We love you!
