Gladys M. Engman

Gladys was born in Canonsburg, PA, to Stanley and Mary McMillan, on April 24, 1927. Her family moved to the San Francisco Bay area, soon after, and she lived the next 93 years in Contra Costa County.

Gladys, a single mother, raised three sons, Hal, a retired Navy Lieutenant, Dave, a locomotive engineer and manager at Southern Pacific and Union Pacific Railroad and Bob a Tugboat Captain for Western towboat in Seattle. Some of her best memories were with her grandsons; Disneyland with Chris and Baseball Games with Eric and Scott. During this time, she worked in property management for McBail based in Alamo.

Gladys loved cooking, walks, her gardens and raising Orchids. She enjoyed taking advantage of all the Bay Area had to offer in museums, stage plays and trips to San Francisco, Mendocino plus much more. She had fun participating in water aerobics and meeting the best of friends, in particular, Wendy Brindley.

Gladys always had a cat who would show up and adopt her. Another would not knock on her door until space was made by the last one. The word was out in the cat world that this was the home and friend to choose.

She was preceded in death by her parents, brother Norman McMillan and sisters, Norma Stansell and Ruth Burt. Survived by Sons, Hal (Suzanne) Engman, Dave (Linda) Engman and Bob (Delora) Engman;

Grandsons, Eric (Yuliia) Engman, Chris (Amber) Engman and Scott (Amelia) Engman; Brother, Robert McMillan; and four Great grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, please give to the Audubon Society in Gladys’s name.

A memorial service will be held at the Oakmont Memorial Park Chapel on December 10, 2021, at 1:00 PM.
