Harold (Hal) Henry Sloper

Harold (Hal) Henry Sloper, age 93 died after a short illness on June 26, 2022, Bruns House Hospice, Alamo, CA.

Hal is survived by his son Steven Sloper and daughter-in-law Karin Sloper of Martinez, CA; his daughter Lauri Sloper, of Martinez, CA, and his four grandchildren, Erin Hardey, Katie Oshita, Kiel Sloper and Ryan Sloper. And their spouses. He is preceded in death by his wife Bonnie Relitz Sloper.

Hal was born on March 14, 1929, in Oakland, CA to parents Harold Randall Sloper and Berenice Thompson Sloper. He graduated from Richmond High School in 1947. In 1952, Hal and Bonnie married and in 1961, he and his family of 4 moved to Martinez, CA where he worked as an IBEW Local 302 Electrician at Dawson Electric for 45 years until his retirement at 62.  Hal was a terrific husband for 59 years, a loving father, grandfather to 4, great grandfather to 10 and great, great grandfather to 3.

Hal was a great golfer who won many trophies from the golf clubs he belonged to in the Bay Area.  Hal was a socially active man who was a serious fan of the San Francisco 49ers, starting with season tickets in 1956 and a fan of his beloved San Francisco Giants since the Giants moved to San Francisco.  For much of his life, he loved working in the construction business, going to Niner games and golfing whether playing with his family or friends. His family and friends will always remember him as an outgoing, happy, and fun-loving person.

The family is planning a celebration of Hal’s life in the future where friends and family can attend and celebrate his life. As Hal did not like cut flowers, the family ask that any donations be sent to Alhambra Hight School Boys’ Golf Team where his son Steve has been the Golf Coach for the past 29 years and where Hal enjoyed supporting junior golfers.
