Hye Sook Yum

Hye Sook (Sue) Yum, age 85, passed away in her sleep on February 25, 2021. Sue was born in Mokpo, South Korea on February 16, 1936. She lived in Mokpo until she left to attend college at Ewha University in Seoul, South Korea where she obtained her bachelor’s degree in education.

While Sue attended school at Ewha University, an all-woman’s college, she met her husband, Tai Yum, through friends. Tai was attending school at the neighboring Yonsei University. Sue and Tai were married on October 22, 1962. Their first child, Kiho, was born in Seoul and soon after Tai left Seoul so that he could attend graduate school at the University of Washington in Seattle. Sue and Kiho later moved to join Tai in Seattle.

After Tai obtained his doctorate degree, Sue and Tai moved their family to Yakima, Washington where their second child, Jeanne, was born. They spent 29 years living in Yakima. Sue enjoyed growing their various businesses and buying and selling commercial property. She thrived doing business and was always looking for a new venture to invest in. After Tai retired, Sue and Tai decided to leave Washington state for Northern California in order to be closer to both of their children. They first moved to San Mateo and lived there for 7 years and later moved to San Ramon to be closer to Jeanne and then eventually Pleasanton, California.

Sue loved to golf at The Bridges Golf Club and San Ramon Golf Club. She also loved to travel on cruises throughout the world. She enjoyed running a business, stock trading, and watching CNBC for all the latest stock tips.

Sue is survived by her husband, Tai, as well as their children Kiho Yum and Jeanne Kim and 2 grandchildren.
