Johanna Skvarla Schroll, 61, of Benicia, California passed peacefully after a brief and sudden illness on February 23, 2023, leaving behind a legacy of love, kindness, and passion.
Johanna was born in North Braddock, Pennsylvania on April 5, 1961. Her family relocated to Concord, California in 1965 where she graduated from Ygnacio Valley High School, a proud trumpet player. She went on to have a 40-year career as an echocardiographer and was known throughout the cardiology community for her compassionate care. She was a dedicated mother who raised two accomplished daughters she was extremely proud of.
Besides being an incredible mother and grandmother, she enjoyed many hobbies, including serving as a certified master gardener and CA state park docent. She was a beautiful knitter and was known for her spectacular cooking and homemaking. While living in her happy place, Pismo Beach, CA, Johanna found her passion for monarch butterflies and worked tirelessly to ensure their future.
She is survived by her daughters, Danielle Lima and Monica Schroll, her husband of many years Bill Schroll, her son-in-law Joey Lima, two granddaughters Katherine and Madison Lima, and sister Ingrid Macky. She is preceded in death by her parents Leo and Ellie Skvarla.
She will be deeply missed by all who knew her, but her memory will live on through the love she shared with her family and friends, and the legacy she left behind. Rest in peace, dear Jo.
A celebration of life is being planned for March 3, 2023 at Oakmont Memorial Park in Lafayette, CA. In lieu of flowers, Johanna would love donations to The Western Monarch Trail by Central Coast State Parks Association at www.westernmonarchtrail.com.
