John Stuart Clugston was born on June 6, 1941 at John Muir Hospital in Concord, CA.
He was the second son born to Robert E. and Frances M. Clugston.
He graduated from Mt Diablo High School in 1959. The next several years were busy for John: he started a family in 1963 with the birth of his daughter, attended college full time, graduating from Cal State Hayward in 1968.
Shortly after college, he began working at the County of Alameda Assessors office in Oakland as a principal Real Estate Assessor, where he enjoyed a long career of 31 years, retiring in 2000.
John’s interests included traveling the world and spending time with friends and family. His passion for gardening was lifelong, his harvests were always bountiful. Those that knew John recognized his skill for rescuing plants. He possessed a forever green thumb - if anyone could get a plant to grow and thrive, it was John that could make that happen. He always shared his knowledge with others, teaching new generations to appreciate the joy of growing plants, fruits, nuts and vegetables of all types. He lived for a great bargain, and was equally creative in up-cycling, recycling materials for numerous projects.
John was a smart, loyal, hardworking, loving and very generous man who was the first to extend a helping hand to anyone in need. As a man of faith, John participated in many church activities throughout the years, helping members of the local community.
Survived by his wife Ida, brother Robin, daughter Jenny, granddaughter Sabrina, niece Lori, nephews Robert, John, Will, along with many extended family members and friends. John will be missed, and will remain forever in our hearts. We love you John.
