Joyce Chao-Hui Wang Shy

Joyce Chao-Hui Wang Shy, 84-years-old, of Walnut Creek was born in Taipei, Taiwan on February 22, 1938 and passed away on September 17, 2022 in her home in Walnut Creek, CA.

Chao-Hui graduated from Taipei University with a degree in Journalism. She immigrated to California with her five young children in 1975 and devoted her entire life raising them as a single mother. She was an avid reader and enjoyed traveling, movies and most of all, spending time with her children and grandchildren. Due to her selfless generosity and support, all her children graduated from universities with honors and are leading beautiful lives. They oftentimes challenged her wisdom and 99.9% of the time, they had to resign to the fact that “Mom is always right!”

She is survived by her children Flora (David), Terry (Stephen), Winnie, and William (Kathleen); grandchildren Haley, Payson, Chase, and Alyssa; siblings Cliff, Vic, Winnie, Jesse, and many other extended family members. She is predeceased by her beloved daughter Ingrid, and siblings Yue-Chiong, Shue-Shun, Shih-Rong and Wen-Feng.

Chao-Hui will be loved and missed forevermore by her many, many loved ones.

Memorial service will be held on Saturday, September 24, 2022 at 10:00am, Oakmont Memorial Park and Mortuary, Lafayette. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations can be made to a charity near and dear to her heart, Smile Train organization, or to the Contra Costa Food Bank.
