Judy was born and raised in Oakland, CA. While working at a circuit board shop she met her prince charming, Darryl Pereira. She moved from the city to the country and started her new life in Martinez, CA. Over the years, she worked as an electrician for Circuit Equipment, with schools organizing magazine fundraisers and MUSD with the special needs program. She sang in the choir at St. Catherine's and volunteered her time to supporting the county's youth through 4-H.
She was the inspiring mind behind Alhambra Valley Beef & Pears. It was her idea to take the pears grown on the family farm to the farmers' market and sell them. She knew they were far to good for canning and wanted people to enjoy them fresh. That first market, it was just her & Darryl selling pears out of the back of a truck. Since that day 20 years ago, our family run business has grown to selling pears at 11 markets and to various restaurants in the fall and meat all year long.
She passed peacefully at home with her loving husband. She ended a long battle with various health conditions that had her in and out of the hospital for the last 2 years. While she fought hard to stay with us, in the end her body was tired and it was time.
She has been reunited with her sons Dennis and Tony, her brother Michael and her mother Margaret in heaven. She is survived by her husband Darryl, daughter Sally, granddaughter Emma, and sisters Rosemarie and Sally.
