Lonnie Murry Coats

Lonnie Coats, a longtime resident of Concord, California, passed away in Dripping Springs, Texas on March 22, 2020. Born December 11, 1928 in Loris, South Carolina, Lonnie grew up on a farm with five siblings -- three sisters and two brothers. In 1950, he joined the Air Force and served during the Korean War. He was stationed at Camp Stoneman in Pittsburg, California where he met and married the love of his life, Frances Summers, on January 23, 1953. Two sons soon followed in 1956 and 1958. Lonnie was employed by Tidewater oil refinery in Martinez for 30 years, where the ownership and name changed numerous times during his career. He was an avid fisherman and loved to fish for salmon on the Klamath River in northern California. He loved to travel with Frances and enjoyed a scotch or two at the end of the day. He also loved to garden and grow his own vegetables. He was a man of many talents.
Lonnie is preceded in death by his siblings and wife Frances Coats. He is survived by his two sons: Charles Coats, wife Josie, Michael Coats, wife Cheryl, and four grandchildren. A graveside service will be held at Oakmont Cemetery in Lafayette, California on June 26, 2020 at 1 PM.
