Tribute

Loretta Jean Jensen Hogan was born on November 4, 1955 in Oakland, California; the second child of parents Billie and Eugene Jensen. In 1960 the family moved to Pleasant Hill, CA where Loretta attended Fair Oaks Elementary School, Valley View Middle School and graduated from College Park High School in 1973. She attended Diablo Valley Junior College for a period of time. She dated James Hogan after they met while he was stationed at Treasure Island, and they were married in the chapel there on November 11, 1975. Loretta and Jim welcomed their daughter Jennifer, born 12 weeks early, on August 21, 1980.

Loretta relished motherhood and took joy in raising Jennifer. But life also brought hardships; the loss of her father to cancer in 1983, as well as her own diagnosis of breast cancer within the same short time span. Loretta pressed on through aggressive treatment and beat cancer.

Loretta and Jim joined a Bible study group with several neighbors in the late 1980’s. This fellowship with other believers awakened in Loretta the desire to know God more and to give her life to Jesus. She was baptized as an adult at Church of Christ in Martinez.

Loretta valued her family and enjoyed spending time with them. From family get-togethers and day trips to boating, camping, RVing and traveling. She loved being on the water and being at the ocean. She was a talented water skier and enjoyed riding her jet ski in later years. She loved to be on the water and found great peace being at the ocean. She had an adventurous spirit and loved to be on the go as much as possible.

She was creative and artistic. She loved crafting and made many gifts for her family and friends. She enjoyed planning parties for her family and co-workers; from family holiday gatherings to annual crab feeds for the Pacific Service Employees Association. Loretta loved to shop for unique finds and could never resist a bargain; her love language was giving gifts and she showered her three grandsons with love. She aspired to enjoy many fun adventures with Jordan, Jameson and Justin and fought a fierce battle against cancer to have as much time with them as possible.

On June 23, 2022, Loretta went home to be with Jesus in heaven. There she joined her father, grandparents and brother, Louis. She is survived by her daughter, Jennifer, son-in-law Jarret, and her grandsons Jordan Wyatt, Jameson Jerry and Justin Ryder; her mother, Billie, sister, Jennifer Jody, aunt, Shirly Anne, and cousins, Lisa, Judy, and Denise.

She will we dearly missed by her family and friends and her enthusiasm for life’s adventures will continue to inspire us.
