Marcelina F. Fuentes

Marcelina Flores Fuentes, Age 85

Resident of Pittsburg, California.

July 6, 1935 – June 12, 2021

She was a long-time resident of Pittsburg California since 1983.  Though small in stature, she was a giant with regards to her faith and hope in battling her ailments during the last two years of her life. In fact, her faith and hope in God sustained her throughout those years, while being cared for by her five loving children and their families. On June 12, 2021, she passed peacefully at home in Concord with her oldest son, by her side.      

Celing, as many of her relatives and friends called her, was born in Manila Philippines on July 6,1935 to Nemencio and Pilar Flores. Though Celing was the last and the only girl among their eight children, her strong will to help her family and widowed mother motivated her to accomplish anything she set her mind to do. She graduated from High School and completed Glamour Beauty School in Manila where she met many popular Filipino movie stars at that time. At about the same time, she met her future husband, Eliezer Santos Fuentes who worked as an Optician, next door from the beauty school.  The couple was married on March 21,1960 and had five children; namely in the order of oldest to the youngest: Noel, Romy, Willy, Amy, and Evelyn.  Celing worked tirelessly from home as a beautician to help her husband earn money, while caring for their five children, her niece, and an ailing mother.

The Fuentes Family immigrated to the US from the Philippines in three stages: Eliezer in 1977, Noel & Willy in 1979 and Celing, Romy, Amy, & Evelyn in 1982. For 5 years, Celing took great care and parented her teenage children while her husband was away from the family. During those years, Celing took the particularly challenging role of leading their children. When the entire family was finally reunited in 1982, Celing started working and was employed for more than 10 years as a housekeeper at Casa San Miguel Convalescent Hospital. She later retired, in 2002, from working for Calitho at its binder department. Her life was dedicated to helping her family succeed, under God’s guidance and provisions.  

She was a long-time member of Christian Renewal Ministries since the early 1980’s and a faithful member to the end.  She gained so many friends at this church and received spiritual and community support, especially when she became a widow in November 2003. She was a pet-lover, compassionate to all human beings and animals. She supported many charities, such as SPCA, VCA, St. Jude, Native American and US Veterans charitable institutions.

She is survived by her children and their families: Noel & Gina Fuentes and grandson, Nate of San Ramon, CA; Romy &, Esther  Fuentes and grandchildren, Nick, Samuel & Allison of Concord, CA; Willy & Ellen Fuentes, grandchildren William & Sara Fuentes, great grandchild, Luna, of Pittsburg CA; Grandchildren Whitney & Sherwin Ancheta , great grandchildren Wesley and Shyla and grandchild Ryan Fuentes of Concord CA; Amy Salais of Antioch CA; and, Evelyn & Mike Easley, and grandchildren, Brianna & Brigette of Antioch CA.
