Monika R. Mendes

Monika Rae Mendes, 63, sadly and suddenly left this earth on February 17, 2023 after a short battle with cancer.  She is survived by her two children Brittni & Matthew Farrell and her grandchildren Michael, Mia, Joseph, Aribella, and her newest grandchild Dominick, due in April. She is preceded in death by her mother Linda Arnold and her daughter Kristin Farrell. 

Monika worked for the West Contra Costa Unified School district for over 25 years spending half of her career as a teacher at various schools in the district and the second half as a counselor for Hercules Middle School. She was only a year away from retiring and had built strong bonds with students and staff alike. 

Monika was adored and deeply loved by her family and friends. She was a bright light that lit up every room she walked into. Being a “Noni” to her grandchildren filled her heart with so much joy and pride and was her more cherished title. 

She was a huge fan of salsa music and if she wasn’t spending the weekends with her family, she would certainly be dancing the night away with her closest friends. 

The sudden loss of Monika has completely devastated and shocked everyone who knew her. to know her and to love her was truly a blessing. A one of a kind, warm hearted, wild spirited, absolutely undeniably wonderful person who is, and will forever be, deeply missed.
