Robert Joe Scheer Obituary
Robert Joe Scheer was born on April 12th, 1944 to Sylvester William Scheer and Mary Eileen (Custer) in Lima, Ohio. He was the second of three boys (William, Robert and Richard). Excelling in academics and sports, he graduated with honors from Manchester College in 1966. He lettered in football and basketball and served as Captain of the football team during the 1965 season.
Bob earned his Doctor of Jurisprudence Degree from the University of Toledo in 1969. It was there that he met Judy. He and Judy married on March 13th, 1971 and had one son, Michael, who was born in 1983.
Bob was an accomplished lawyer, dedicating nearly 50 years to labor relations arbitration. Most of his career was spent as an employee of paper manufacturing companies, finding resolution between his company and unions.
Bob took great pride in the service that he was able to provide back to Manchester College. He was inducted into the Manchester College Athletic Hall of Fame in 2006 and proudly served on the Manchester College Board of Trustees from 1999-2013.
Bob loved youth sports. He served as the statistician for the Las Lomas High School football team for 11 years and coached Walnut Creek baseball and flag football teams. Las Lomas honors him with the “Bob Scheer Award,” presented annually to the team’s outstanding lineman.
Bob loved his friends and his neighbors. He considered them to be his extended family. One of his favorite things was routine dinners and game nights.
His greatest love was for his family. He was a devoted and loyal husband to Judy for 48 years. He was an involved and loving father to Mike. He was incredibly proud of his daughter-in-law, Brittney (Becker), and three beautiful granddaughters, Millie, MacKenzie and Sadie.
His impact on his family is profound. On December 15th, 2019, Robert Joe Scheer was called to Heaven. He is loved and will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
