Tribute

Incredible loving mother, doting Auntie, and supportive friend, Ruby McMurry, 94, daughter of Beulah and Ed Sanders, was born on a cold and snowy morning in Little River, Oklahoma. Ruby passed away peacefully on January 1, 2022.

She spent her childhood on a farm milking cows, hoeing cotton and corn and spending time with her sister Billie, brothers Russel, Carl and J.B.  She was an avid softball and basketball player.  When she was fifteen years old, she moved to nearby Holdenville where she worked for Lewis Printing Company, setting type and printing all kinds of flyers, advertisements, and announcements.  She met her future husband George (Buddy) when walking to work one day.  They married on Christmas Day, 1949.  She and Buddy moved to Midwest City, Oklahoma, in 1950 when he secured a position as an electrician at Tinker Air Force Base.  In 1952 their son David was born.  They resided in the same house until after Buddy’s death in 1974.  Ruby moved to the Central Valley in California to be near her family in 1995.  In 2008 she moved to Walnut Creek to be near her son David.

Ruby was an avid sports fan.  She loved baseball, (SF Giants), football, (49ers and Raiders, the OU Sooners), basketball (Warriors), Tennis and NASCAR.  When you walked into her house, she always had sports programs on TV, with the exception of weekdays at 4:00 p.m. when she would have her one glass of wine and watched Judge Judy.

She loved her family deeply and was a very proud Okie.  She is survived by her son David, Walnut Creek, and nieces Shirley (Bob) Glotch, Carolyn (Allan) Jenkins, and nephews Stan Sanders, Carl (Jeri) Sanders, Paul (Rebecca) Sanders, Bill (Melissa) Ellis, Mike Ellis, Joey (Nedra) Sanders, Randy (Theresa) Sanders, and Derek (Shanda) Sanders

A celebration of Ruby’s life will be held in the Spring.  In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in Ruby’s memory to the Alzheimer’s Association, alz.org.
