Tribute

Samuel J. Muir, Jr., passed away on April 13, 2020, in Antioch, CA, at the age of 90. He was born October 14, 1929, in Pueblo, CO, where he lived before moving to the Bay Area with his parents at the age of 5.

He is survived by his 4 children, Samuel (Sharon), Craig (Marlene), Clark (Kelli) and Danielle; seven grandchildren, 4 great grandchildren, and loving nieces and nephews.  He is preceded in death by his wife, Doris, of 64 years, mother and father Samuel Sr. and Elsie, and brother's William and Harry.

Sam graduated from Pittsburg High School in 1947. He married his high school sweetheart, Doris Davenport, in May 1951.  He was a member of our armed forces, serving in the US Air Force as a top secret courier in the Korean War, and stationed at Fort Walton in Pensacola, FL. Upon an honorable discharge from the Air Force, Sam and Doris returned to CA where they made their home in Pittsburg. Sam worked with his father in the automotive industry, Sam & Son Automotive in Pittsburg, was a long haul truck driver, and also worked for the Ethel Corporation, before going to work for Mazzei Pontiac/Cadillac as shop foreman in the body shop where he retired in 1987. Upon retiring, Sam and Doris moved to their beloved mountains in Dorrington, CA, where our family and friends spent many wonderful times together.  Sam loved camping and water skiing at Lake Shasta and Whiskeytown Lake. He was a boatwright and built L Capitan, manufactured by Glen L—a 19-foot boat. Sam was an enthusiastic Oakland Raiders fan, a held season tickets. Raider Nation will forever miss him!

Sam spent the past eight years at Quail Lodge Retirement community in Antioch, CA. He was beloved by the residents and caregivers (BlancaBlancaBlanca, Olga, Monse, Jury, and Eva ) there until his passing.

A private family burial will be held Wednesday April 22, 2020. A celebration of life with military honors will be held at a future date to be determined.
