Tribute

Thomas Jay McGoldrick, 67, of Antioch, passed away in Oakland, California on February 22, 2020, after a brief illness. His family was with him.

The sixth of six children, Thomas was the son of Dorothea Marie (White) McGoldrick and James Joseph McGoldrick. He was born in Oakland, California and lived there and in Petaluma as a child. He later relocated to Contra Costa County living in Walnut Creek, Lafayette and Antioch. Tom attended De La Salle High School and DVC. He had been an assistant manager for Longs Drugs and was retired. He hired his wife, Melanie, in 1982 in the capacity of a clerk at Longs. They were married on September 24,1983.

Tom enjoyed playing golf, camping, fishing, attending his children's school and sports events, hiking, traveling, and spending time at Lake Tahoe. His beloved Norwegian Elkhound, Excalibur and Golden Retrievers, Sundance and Brinkley, kept him busy over the years. Family was most important to Tom. His favorite holiday was Christmas, which he thoroughly enjoyed celebrating with family. Tom also was proud of his Irish heritage, inspiring both of his children to recently visit the Emerald Isle.

Friend to many and acquaintance to hundreds, Tom was outgoing and loved to chat with people. He knew his customers and neighbors, and they knew him. Lending a helping hand to neighbors, friends and family was one of Tom's gifts, along with his great sense of humor.

Tom is survived by his wife, Melanie McGoldrick, son, Michal McGoldrick and his wife, Alexis, and daughter, Aimie McGoldrick, all of Antioch. Also surviving Tom are his siblings, brothers Paul McGoldrick and his wife Jeanne of Reno, Nevada, John McGoldrick and his wife Connie, of Reno, Nevada, Jim McGoldrick and his wife, Claire of Las Vegas, Nevada, and sisters Kathy Hoover of Moraga, and Pat McCarthy and her husband, Michael, of Thousand Oaks; as well as his many nieces and nephews.
